2018-19 GT Projects

Students in the Gifted Program have opportunities to work on advanced academic projects and research projects. Each year, there are at least two long-term projects where students have the chance to work alone or with others (sometimes self-selected groups and sometimes assigned groups).
2nd / 3rd Grade

For the Fall Semester, students in 2nd and 3rd grade conducted research projects on the subjects of the U.S. Constitution, Veterans Day, and self-selected U.S. History topics.

4th / 5th Grade

The Fall Semester for 4th and 5th graders consisted of working with Lego robotics. Students worked on their programming skills with Code.org and then were given challenges for building and programming Lego robots.

4th grade challenges were:  building a rover with sensors, pull challenge (building for strength), and speed challenge.

5th grade challenges were: building an earthquake simulator and then constructing model buildings designed to withstand earthquakes, constructing robots to simulate the life cycle of a frog, and building a floodgate to simulate systems to prevent flooding.
